10 Things Your Stylist Wants You To Know

Communication is key, even with (or should I say ‘especially’ with) your stylist. You get to the salon with something in mind, but have you ever wondered what your stylist is actually thinking?

Apart from having realistic expectations from the service, here are a few things that your stylist wants you to know in order to always have a healthy head of hair, as per Noor Abohjaili, Director & Makeup Artist at Grafton Hair Dubai.

1. Protect your hair from the heat of the sun: Aside from using a UV sun pro. Always use a moisturising product before exposing your hair to the sun. The Amazon Keratin Argan Oil Serum provides hair with an immediate moisture infusion and leaves a lustrous finish.

2. Maintain a healthy diet: You are what you eat and this holds true for your hair. Eating a balanced, nutritious diet is essential for the health and growth of your hair. For instance, protein is an essential food group for hair, for example, as hair is composed of proteins called keratin, and amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein. Nutrient deficiencies such as iron can contribute to both hair thinning and hair loss. Many nuts and seeds contain many vitamins and minerals that promote hair growth, including vitamin B and vitamin E, zinc, fatty acids and they are also high in omega-3s, which help to nourish the hair and support its growth.

3. Take nutritional supplements: The hair health can be enhanced through supplementation including an intake of vitamin D, vitamin C, folate (vitamin B12), riboflavin (vitamin B2), biotin, iron, zinc, selenium, antioxidants, and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids

4. Massage the scalp daily: This will encourage good circulation so that the blood flows and brings all the nutrients to your hair follicles, stimulating hair growth. It also exfoliates any dead skin, thereby reducing scalp itch.

5. Comb your hair the right way: Use a wide-toothed comb made of wood or hard rubber and comb small sections of hair at a time. Avoid using plastic combs as these can create a slight electrical charge as they move through your hair. And above all else, take your time and be gentle to avoid hair breakage.

6. Wash your hair wisely: Don’t wash your hair every day, or you’ll strip your hair of its natural oils, which can dry out and damage your hair over time. The number of times to wash your hair weekly depends on your hair type. Oily hair types may require washing every 2 to 3 days, but dry hair may only need washing 1 to 2 times per week.

7. Moisturize your hair regularly: Use a moisturizing conditioner to help keep the ends of your hair from splitting or drying out. Remember the ends of your hair are most likely a few years old and need TLC to ensure they look as beautiful, shiny and as frizz-free as possible.

8. Using hair treatments once every week will give you gorgeous hair : By using a weekly treatment on the hair, you can address specific issues your hair has and give it some TLC to ensure it looks its best. One of the most popular at-home hair treatments on the market is Olaplex. This is a multi-step, hair strengthening treatment that rebuilds disulfide bonds within the hair that are broken by any chemical treatments including hair colour services it or using hot hair tools.

9. Cut your hair regularly, once every two months:  Frequent haircuts prevent the hair cuticle from splitting at the end and regular trims can also improve hair growthand prevent hair from becoming too dry or breaking.

10. Ask your stylist: You stylist will have an in-depth knowledge of your hair type, the challenges you face with your hair and the way you like to style your hair. They are a wealth of knowledge so why not tap into that expertise. Ask them to recommend products and treatments to use at home to maintain salon-fresh hair.
