Berluti x Bil Arabi by Nadine Kanso

At the occasion of its expansion in the region with the re-opening of the Mall of Emirates and Dubai Mall boutiques, Berluti has partnered with Artist, jewellery Designer, and Photographer, Nadine Kanso to reinterpret the Maison’s logo, fusing Arabic calligraphy and Berluti’s signature B. The new motif is featured in a dedicated capsule collection of leather goods.

Born in Lebanon and based in Dubai, Nadine Kanso is known for her use of Arabic calligraphy to create designs exploring the crossroads between language, culture, and ideas. Crafted in precious metals, colourful stones, and enamel, and using traditional methods, her jewellery pieces have made her brand, Bil Arabi, a household name. Like her jewels, Nadine’s style stands out for its unconventional take on chic. Her trademark slicked back hair and taste for androgynous clothing make for an instantly recognisable aesthetic that naturally matches Berluti’s.

For this collaboration, Nadine worked closely with the house, choosing the Arabic character Kunn - meaning “to be” - as wordplay around the Maison’s B logo. In her depiction, both signs mesh together to create a new pattern within a circle, a symbol of unity and exclusivity.

The resulting collection features an embroidered patch on a white T-shirt, as well as leather goods with the pattern tattooed on the Venezia leather using Berluti’s signature tattoo technique. Complete with a timeless Cacao Intenso patina, the selection includes a Bambou card holder, Makore wallet, Tersio pouch, Un Jour briefcase and Time Off backpack. A Formula 1005 rolling suitcase and a cigar box - a nod to Nadine’s own cigar connoisseurship - complete the offering.

“Berluti is delighted to collaborate with Bil Arabi by Nadine Kanso. Throughout her work as an Artist, jewellery Designer, and Photographer, Nadine has a deep appreciation of the craftsmanship which lies at the root of the Maison’s DNA. This partnership has allowed for a true blend of Bil Arabi’s essence and Berluti’s savoir-faire, creating a real connection between the two. Nadine’s use of calligraphy in her work is sublimed in the capsule through Berluti’s technique of tattooing leather. This fusion emphasises the shared values of commitment to excellence, expertise, and individual expression. Berluti is proud to have Nadine Kanso as the first Middle Eastern artist to sign a collaboration, highlighting the importance and appreciation of art and culture in the region.” House of Berluti.

"Working closely with Berluti and delving deeper into the essence of the brand was an immensely inspiring experience.  Their unparalleled craftsmanship and unwavering commitment to the art form are qualities that I deeply admire and can draw valuable lessons from as a designer," said Nadine Kanso of Bil Arabi.  “Berluti's connection with its clients is nothing short of extraordinary, akin to an exclusive members' club or a tight-knit family. This connection serves as the inspiration behind the creation of the iconic KUNN symbol, elegantly rendered in a circular form. Being chosen for this remarkable collaboration and having the opportunity to infuse the beauty of the Arabic language into Berluti's pieces has been a memorable journey from start to finish. It fills me with immense pride to contribute to the celebration of our region through this artistic endeavour." Nadine Kanso.
