The story of Baccarat
Baccarat was founded in 1764 under the patronage of King Louis XV, who granted the town of Baccarat in France’s Lorraine region permission to establish a royal glassworks. Its original purpose was to produce fine glassware for the palace in the form of mirrors and window panes.
By 1816, production had shifted to crystalware and soon after that, regular commissions started coming in from royal families and prominent world leaders.
Technological improvements throughout the 19th century led to the development of coloured crystal and ultimately, the creation of more elaborate pieces such as chandeliers, vases and perfume bottles.
Today, Maison Baccarat is a creative powerhouse with a stable of artisans that has been awarded the highest honours by the French government.
When the brand expanded its presence into the lifestyle space in the early 2000s, its main aim was to emphasise French joie de vivre, delivering an experience consistent with its esteemed brand heritage.
Partnering with renowned names like Gilles&Boissier for its New York hotel and 1508 London in Dubai, Baccarat could ensure that their residences featured the same level
of craftsmanship that clients had come to expect from their crystalware.
The rise of branded residences
Over the past decade, there has been a growing shift toward branded residences, reflecting the evolution of buyer tastes. The generic tag of ‘luxury’ no longer holds any appeal. Buyers want the security and assurance of quality that a recognisable brand name brings with it.
Dubai is the perfect setting for brands to expand their global presence and to establish their credentials in a crowded real estate space.
The prevalence of this trend has driven some of the leading names in fashion, jewellery and automotive to make the jump to real estate.
Armani and Bulgari are two other notable examples of that, making their residential debuts in Dubai.
