Jaguar Type 01

A New Era of British Performance

Jaguar has unveiled the new Type 01 in New York, marking a defining moment in the transformation of one of Britain’s most iconic automotive marques. Designed, engineered and built in the UK, the four-door electric GT represents Jaguar’s most technically advanced, powerful and aerodynamic production car to date, signalling the beginning of a new chapter for the brand.

The Type 01 is the first major expression of Jaguar’s strategy announced in 2021, establishing a distinctive position for the marque within JLR’s House of Brands alongside Range Rover, Defender and Discovery. Where those brands occupy their own territories within the luxury automotive landscape, Jaguar is being repositioned as an exclusively electric marque with a clear focus on design, performance and technology.

Underpinning the new model is Jaguar’s bespoke Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). An 850-volt electrical system is paired with a 118kWh usable battery, delivering an expected EPA range of up to 400 miles, while sustained highway driving is expected to offer up to 320 miles of range.

Performance is equally ambitious. With up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm of torque, the Type 01 can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in just 3.2 seconds. When rapid charging is required, the 350kW DC charging capability can add approximately 200 miles of range in as little as 13 minutes.

But the Type 01 represents more than a new electric performance car. Its arrival is closely tied to JLR’s broader investment in British engineering and manufacturing. Since announcing its £15–18 billion five-year investment programme in 2024, JLR says it has invested £11.5 billion in engineering, design and manufacturing its next-generation vehicles, with the majority of that investment taking place in the UK.

The Type 01 will be manufactured at JLR’s Solihull operations from 2027, with its production story extending across the British automotive manufacturing network. Electric Drive Units and battery packs will be produced in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will be manufactured at Halewood in Merseyside.

The investment is also supporting the development of the skilled workforce behind Britain’s next generation of electric vehicles. Nearly 9,000 employees at JLR’s Solihull site have been retrained to build electric vehicles, with a further 1,500 colleagues trained across JLR’s wider West Midlands operations.

For Jaguar, the significance extends beyond its own production lines. The company’s manufacturing activity supports thousands of businesses throughout the British automotive supply chain, including around 60,000 jobs sustained by JLR’s wider supplier network in the West Midlands.

“The unveiling of Type 01 marks the beginning of an exciting new era for Jaguar,” said PB Balaji, CEO of JLR. “Combining British heritage, bold creativity, advanced technology and groundbreaking engineering, it reflects our ambition to create objects of desire that will help us invite a new generation of clients into Jaguar’s loyal and passionate customer base.”

The Type 01 also sits at the heart of JLR’s wider growth strategy, which targets double-digit growth over the next five years. The plan is built around three principal drivers: expanding different customer segments through brand-led growth, maintaining propulsion flexibility across the wider portfolio through ICE, hybrid and BEV technologies, and placing greater emphasis on North America as a priority growth market.

Jaguar, however, will take a different path. Its future is exclusively electric, giving the marque a distinct identity within the JLR family while allowing it to pursue a new interpretation of contemporary luxury and performance.

With production preparations already at an advanced stage, customers will be able to order the Jaguar Type 01 from early 2027.
