This week’s fragrance takes us to Madagascar, where the air is filled with the intoxicating scent of vanilla pods, dark, creamy, and irresistibly sensual. Vanille Caviar, the newest creation from BDK Parfums’ Collection Matières, is an ode to contrast: a monochrome where shadow becomes light and depth turns luminous.
“This new creation, Vanille Caviar, is part of the Collection Matières. It is a beautiful, dense and creamy and textured vanilla, a little dark too! It was a great pleasure to work again with Alexandra Carlin, who previously created Velvet Tonka from the same Collection, as well as 312 Saint-Honoré and Villa Néroli. We shared the same memory from a trip to Madagascar we both took: the scent in the vanilla plantations with the fleshy pods revealing dark, sensual, liqueur-like precious black seeds, resembling caviar, with a gourmand and profoundly sensual scent,” says David Benedek, founder of BDK Parfums.
Crafted by perfumer Alexandra Carlin, Vanille Caviar reveals the many dimensions of this noble material, from the rich CO₂ extract and absolute of vanilla to the interplay of cacao, labdanum, and balsamic Peru balm. Cardamom, cassis, and osmanthus add a subtle freshness and vibrancy, while the heart unveils a “vanilla caviar” accord with salty, mineral nuances.
The result is a dark yet luminous composition that captures the essence of contrast, where the sensuality of vanilla becomes a source of light. Enveloping, addictive, and profoundly elegant, Vanille Caviar stands as a modern ode to one of perfumery’s most timeless ingredients.
