There are few voices as closely associated with Christmas as Mariah Carey’s. And when the opening notes of All I Want for Christmas Is You return, the holiday season officially feels within reach. This year, Gucci gives the festive moment its own cinematic setting, inviting Carey to star in its new holiday campaign, directed by Harmony Korine.
Set inside a hotel preparing for the singer’s arrival, the film turns the familiar rituals of the season into an extravagant Gucci spectacle. Elaborate decorations, carefully arranged surprises and the anticipation surrounding Carey’s appearance create a playful atmosphere, with the House’s characteristic visual language running throughout. At the centre of it all is Mariah, whose unmistakable presence brings the campaign its own sense of occasion.
For her appearance, Carey wears pieces from the new Butterfly special collection, inspired by the iridescence of the butterfly, a motif closely associated with the singer and the title of her 1997 album. The reference feels particularly personal, bringing together music, identity and fashion through a symbol that has accompanied her career for decades.
Beyond the campaign film, Gucci presents a holiday selection spanning handbags, shoes and accessories. The offering includes shimmering versions of the Starlet, Gucci Duffle and GG Marmont bags, alongside the soft suede Paparazzo. Footwear ranges from GG Monogram boots and Horsebit loafers to Ace sneakers and Vittoria pumps, while hats and scarves complete the selection for the colder months.
With Carey at its centre, Gucci approaches the holidays through a combination of pop culture, fashion and celebration. It is a campaign that understands the pleasure of anticipation, the appeal of a beautifully wrapped gift and the particular kind of excitement that arrives with the first Christmas song. After all, some traditions need very little introduction.
