Designed by the late Frank Gehry, the building alone is worth the journey to the capital. Ten sculptural cones - nine clad in stainless steel mesh, and one in onyx and glass, rise up to 88 metres above the meeting point of land and sea, piercing the Abu Dhabi skyline with grand architectural confidence. Inside, 30 galleries unfold across 11,600 square metres, connected by a central atrium that takes the visitor through art history, along with something even more fluid: connections across time, geography and artistic practice. The collection spans painting, sculpture, installation, photography, moving image and new media, art from the 1960s to the present, seen through an Abu Dhabi lens.

This is the fourth museum in the Guggenheim's global constellation, joining New York, Venice, and Bilbao. Much more than just another address on a prestigious list, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi has been building its collection since 2009, shaped by a vision that is deliberately transcultural, moving beyond chronology and geography to highlight artistic lineages, networks and exchanges that the Western art world has historically underrepresented.

It joins Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Cultural District, cementing the island's position as one of the most significant concentrations of cultural institutions anywhere in the world.

Guggenheim Abu Dhabi opens on December 11th, 2026 on Saadiyat Island.
