In this article, we will share a simple guide on how to make use of available tools such as Gemini by Google to execute your next home makeover.
First, what is Gemini?
Gemini is powered by Google’s most capable AI models, designed with varying capabilities and use cases. Like most Large Language Models (LLMs) today, these models are pre-trained on a variety of data from publicly available sources. Gemini was launched last year as an experiment, and has since then, been leveraged by millions of users worldwide.
How to access Gemini?
Gemini is currently available in various languages worldwide including English and Arabic. For Arabic specifically, you can use prompts in over 16 dialects such as the Egyptian Arabic colloquial, or the Syrian Arabic colloquial, and the model will understand your prompt and answer your question/inquiry in Modern Standard Arabic (Fush’a or MSA). People can even add their prompts - both by writing it or voicing it - in English or any other language and ask Gemini to share the answer in Arabic. You can access Gemini on desktop by gemini.google.com. If you have an Android device, you can download the Gemini app from the Google Play Store, and if you have an iOS powered device, you can access Gemini through Google’s official app.
Now how can Gemini help decorate my house?
Getting inspired
You can use Gemini to help kick-off your decoration journey. In order to get an early inspiration booster, I recommend you to look up the different decoration styles. For example, Gemini can provide you with an overview of the Minimalist, Scandinavian, Bohemian or traditional decoration styles. Your prompt can be something like; “What are the different decoration styles for my house? show me a picture of each to understand the differences”
With the multi-model capabilities, Gemini can find you existing images that demo the different styles, or generate new ones based on your prompt - as shown in the previous example.
As a next step, you can ask Gemini to suggest specific colour combinations that complement your chosen style, and explain the various aspects of each chosen colour - depending on the mood you want to create in your room. It’s recommended to be as specific as possible in the prompt in order to get the best outcome, and the most relevant to what you have in mind. As a tip, make sure your prompt includes the context, the objective and the reasoning. Have a look at the below example:
“What are the best colour combinations that complement the bohemian style I want to create in my living room in Dubai? Put in mind I have a 5-year old girl that will need some space to move and play. I want a full explanation of the colours suggested and how they impact the mood.”
With such a prompt, you can get a full breakdown of colours, mood, and impact. For example, if you’re looking for an earthy inspired tone, then you can go with deep greens, burnt oranges, mustard yellows and browns. Now that you have the colour guidelines, you can visualise the dream furniture, art work, and textile to get even further inspiration. You can use such generated photos to look up for similar ones in stores, or to create new ones in the furniture shop. Remember, it’s always good to have a conversation with a tool like Gemini - this where your prompts will be sharper, clearer, and more relevant to what you truly want.
Planning with Gemini
Now that you are inspired, you can plan your next makeover, one step at a time. If planning is a challenge for you, use Gemini to assist you in creating a budget tracker and a timeline to help you stay organised. Because Gemini is integrated with other Google tools, you can get a tracker template that you can edit and share on Google Sheets.
Product Recommendations
If you like a specific product - like a two-seater sofa you spotted at a restaurant - and you liked it. You can open your Google app and click on the image icon. This way, you will either upload an existing image or capture one on the spot. Search will list you either the same product or something similar that you want to buy. This feature is powered by Google Lens, which is now embedded also into Gemini. You can give it a little upgrade, by uploading the image of that furniture piece on Gemini and ask the tool to explain the colours used in that piece and which style it does actually follow.

As Google products are all integrated, you can use Google Maps to find the nearby furniture places! You don’t need to leave Gemini and visit Google Maps. Instead, just type your prompt and add (@GoogleMaps) and it will share with you the nearby furniture shops accordingly.
Speaking of extensions, you can also use Gemini to help you summarize what a cool YouTube video talks about when it comes to the various decoration styles.
