L’Officiel Arabia: Your research has explored the regenerative power of stem cells. How according to you, do they contribute to delaying aging and enhancing longevity?
Giuseppe Mucci: Stem cells are essential for the repair and regeneration of tissues, which naturally declines as we age. As we get older, the number and function of stem cells in our bodies decrease, leading to age-related diseases. Specifically, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can help delay the aging process by promoting tissue regeneration and reducing inflammation. These stem cells can rejuvenate organs like the heart, brain, and skin by secreting molecules that modulate the aging process, such as reducing oxidative stress and cellular damage. Essentially, stem cells offer a regenerative solution to fight the root causes of aging.
What are the primary sources of stem cells, and why is adipose tissue preferred over other tissues for stem cell extraction? How are these stem cells isolated from the surrounding cells?
Adipose tissue is an ideal source of stem cells because it is abundant and easily accessible. The stem cells we extract from fat—specifically mesenchymal stem cells—are multipotent, meaning they can generate a variety of tissue types. They are found in the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) of adipose tissue. Once we obtain the fat, we process it in our clean labs, isolating these valuable stem cells and multiplying them to create large quantities for clinical use. This method is not only efficient but allows us to avoid the need for extensive fat removal.
How does stem cell therapy differ from other popular anti-aging treatments like Botox, fillers, or chemical procedures?
Unlike Botox or fillers, which provide temporary solutions by paralyzing muscles or filling wrinkles, stem cell therapy focuses on regeneration. Stem cells address the underlying causes of aging by promoting the growth of new, healthy tissues. The results are more lasting and natural.
