Inside the World of Miruna Studio

Founder and Creative Director Miruna talks about identity, craftsmanship and designing for women who dress with purpose and presence.
Miruna, Founder & Creative Director

From Romania to Sweden to Dubai, Miruna has built a design voice shaped by movement, contrast and cultural depth. As the Founder and Creative Director of Miruna Studio, she creates pieces that are greatly driven by emotion, focusing on silhouette, presence and the strength of personal expression. Produced locally in the UAE in close collaboration with skilled tailors and pattern makers, each garment is designed to carry character and intention. In this conversation, Miruna reflects on the influences that shaped her aesthetic, the role of craftsmanship in a fast paced industry, and how MIRUNA continues to create for the modern woman.

Having grown up in Romania, lived in Sweden, and built your brand in Dubai, how have these three very different cultures shaped your design language and the identity of the MIRUNA woman?

Romania gave me a sense of drama and emotional expression in how clothing speaks. Sweden shaped my eye for clean lines, balance and edited silhouettes, and Dubai gave me the confidence to design pieces that are visually strong and unapologetic. Each place changed how I see the female form and how far a garment can go in expressing personality. When I design now, I naturally blend emotion as well as clarity and that mix defines my aesthetic more than any single trend or region.

Since you often emphasize on your creative process being predominately emotion-led, can you walk us through how a feeling or phrase evolves into a finished piece, from the first idea to the final fitting?

The starting point is usually a mood or a line that captures an attitude. From there, the focus goes straight to silhouette and how the piece should frame the body. Sketches come first, but fabric and draping quickly take over because they reveal the real direction. Fittings are where the mood is sharpened through length, volume, and cut. Anything that distracts from the feeling is removed. The finished piece should read clearly without needing explanation.

How important is craftsmanship and hands-on involvement to you as a designer in today’s fast-moving fashion landscape, especially since you have been so clear to produce locally in the UAE?

Each piece is designed to express a certain mood or character, so close involvement in the making process matters a lot. Working side by side with tailors and pattern makers helps keep that character consistent from sketch to final garment. Fittings are not only about size and fit, but they are also about attitude and presence on the body. Small changes in cut can completely shift the personality of a look. That level of craftsmanship keeps the message of the design intact.

In your words, how does your brand redefine confidence and femininity for the modern woman?

The idea behind MIRUNA was to create pieces that carry personality and character, not just style. Every collection and design is named with intention because each one represents a specific mood and vibe. The focus is always on an unapologetic, confident woman who dresses with purpose. Confidence here is expressed through silhouette, stance, and visual impact. Femininity is treated as bold and self-defined, and not limited to one aesthetic.

As the label begins to grow beyond the region, how do you see MIRUNA evolving internationally while still holding on to its true essence?

The core idea is that MIRUNA is made for women to express themselves, and that does not change with geography. Some elements may adapt to suit regional preferences, but the attitude behind the designs stays the same. The focus remains on creating pieces that resonate with strong women rather than chasing volume. Growth is important, but not at the cost of identity. Each woman brings her own boldness to the garment. The design simply supports that expression.
