Julien Macdonald Catwalk Comeback at #LFW

Julien Macdonald is the King of Glamour and his shows at London Fashion Week are always eagerly anticipated and celebrity packed fashion extravaganzas. So was the last one.

“I am so happy to be back on the runway and wanted to create something Out of this World... Expect the unexpected in this season’s collection, where things aren’t always quite as they seem. We have created a new Glamour – a world full of love, enchantment and elegance, inspired by strong women, the future and new Millennial Mermaids with their mythological features," says Macdonald.

International Fashion Designer Julien MacDonald OBE studied fashion knitwear at the University of Brighton then received his MA from the Royal College of Art in London.  Following the success of his RCA graduation show, where his talent caught the attention of Karl Lagerfeld, he was appointed Head Designer of Knitwear at Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld.

Julien Macdonald launched his own label at London Fashion Week in 1997, and there began his reputation as a leading British fashion designer, whose high octane and glamorous designs have been worn by international stars including: Kim Kardashian, Beyonce,Jennifer Lopez, Migos, Bella Hadid, Chadwick Boseman, Kylie Jenner, Lewis Hamilton, Gigi Hadid, Kate Beckinsale, Rihanna and Naomi Campbell.

In 2001, Julien Macdonald was named British Designer of the Year, and the same year was appointed as Creative Director to the French fashion couture house Givenchy, successor to Alexander McQueen, designing both haute couture and ready-to-wear collections.

In 2003 Julien received the British Glamour British Designer of the Year award and GQ Womenswear Designer of the Year and was nominated the following year at the Olivier Awards, for his costume designs for the Richard Alston Dance Company’s ‘Shimmer’ at Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

In 2004 Julien was awarded an Order of the British Empire for his services to the fashion industry.

Submerged in an underworld where every facet is in a state of flux, his AW23 collection blurs the lines between what is real and what is imagined. The landscape is inhabited by entrancing new beings that embody different dichotomies of human nature, exploring the interplay between light and dark. Visions, sounds and textures meander from one state to another, with translucent shades transforming into other-worldly tones, creating a visceral feeling of intrigue and mystery.

Out of This World is an homage to fierce femininity, sensuality, and the limitless power of women. By mixing intricate knit and tailoring techniques complemented by carefully selected sequins and threads, Julien has created looks that shimmer and glide like liquid over the body as if they are a living extension of the person wearing them.

Couture techniques and crystals infuse every bespoke piece, each inspired by a precious stone: the topaz, the amethyst and rose quartz. Ostrich feathers, sequins, leather and beads are delicately intertwined in multi-dimensional and iridescent silhouettes to embody each crystal. The bespoke pieces encapsulate Julien’s dedication to couture craftsmanship, with artisans dedicating more than three hundred hours to bring these made-to-order couture creations to life.

International fashion designer Gabriela Gonzalez studied fashion in Mexico and Spain where she developed her eye for exceptional pieces, bringing her influencer status in Mexico and the US.

Gonzalez’s natural beauty made her an obvious model, but her style, class and elegance elevated her to the status of muse. Extensive global travels fire her creativity and her vision led to her collaboration with Julien Macdonald, her dearest friend and mentor, in the creation of pieces for her to wear at the many different events she attends. With Julien already the designer of choice for many of the most beautiful, successful women in the world, it’s testament to Gabriela's force, keen eye and futuristic vision, along with the magic of her femininity and exquisite taste, that she embodies Julien’s aesthetic.
