Lula Laora AW23: ARCADE

Arcade games can be physically demanding and simultaneously entertain and challenge your body, allowing you to be even more immersed in a virtual world.

Games allow you to customize your player, one of Lula’s favourite moments when starting a new game. Allowing you to input parts of yourself into the design of the virtual character, similar to when you get ready for the day in reality.

From here she decided to develop her video game characters. With this collection, the label has created three digital universes, each having a set of three characters. Every character has a look, skillset and storyline.

One world represents nature and life on earth. Taking inspiration from the elves of the Lothlórien from Lord Of The Rings, Princess Padme from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, as well as references to rare beetles and their anatomy.

The second world represents the bio-mechanic and the fusion between flesh and digital. Inspired by Swiss Artist H.R. Giger, as well as The Matrix.

The last world is centred around a hardcore gaming aesthetic, taking inspiration from a favourite anime, Sailor Moon, as well as games such as Mortal Kombat and Dead or Alive 3.

The silhouettes and garments within Autumn Winter 2023 allow total freedom of movement. Signature pieces the label is known for such as catsuits and puffer jackets, feature alongside more dramatic structures. Created using power mesh, velvet, PVC, denim, cotton and satins. Some fabrics have been printed digitally and others hand-painted. Every character has an accessory and a prop as part of their skill set. Arcade is a collection that has been built and presented like no other previous LULA LAORA collection.

Whilst creating this collection, Lula listened to Rengoku theme from Demon Slayer, as well as Belgian musician Apashe, who mixes classical and electronic music.
