There are resorts that impress, and then there are destinations that completely redefine the art of travel. AYANA Bali belongs firmly in the latter category. Set across 90 hectares of clifftop gardens overlooking the Indian Ocean in Jimbaran, this expansive resort is less a hotel and more a world of its own, where every corner celebrates nature, wellness, gastronomy, and culture in equal measure. When L’Officiel Arabia embarked on a curated journey to AYANA Bali, the experience unfolded as a seamless blend of indulgence and discovery. From private villa living and floating breakfasts to traditional Balinese performances and ocean-front spas, the trip offered a holistic glimpse into the best of Bali, where luxury is not just comfort, but connection to place.
Our introduction to AYANA Bali began at a two-bedroom luxurious AYANA Villas, a private sanctuary within the resort offering secluded elegance with infinity pools, 24x7 butler service, and views that stretch endlessly over the ocean. Villas here are not simply accommodations, they are retreats of tranquillity, ideal for those who value privacy without forgoing access to AYANA’s impressive universe. To ease into the property, the resort team led us on a guided tour across the 90-hectare estate. With multiple swimming pools, an endless collection of restaurants, and lush gardens, AYANA feels like its own tropical city, yet everything flows in harmony, connected by Balinese artistry and understated luxury. As the sun dipped, we were transported to Kampoeng Bali, a cultural dining concept that recreates the atmosphere of a traditional Balinese village. Here, surrounded by open-air pavilions and torchlight, we indulged in a banquet of local delicacies while dancers, musicians, and fire performers brought Bali’s mythology to life. It was an evening of storytelling through food and art,a grounding reminder that luxury in Bali often lies in authenticity.
The second day began with breakfast at DAVA Restaurant, where sunrise views of the Indian Ocean are paired with international and local flavors. Yet the highlight of the morning was AYANA Spa’s Thalassotherapy pool, one of the world’s largest of its kind. This heated seawater labyrinth is designed to stimulate circulation and tonicity while guests float through hydro-massage stations. With panoramic views of the ocean, it was both invigorating and deeply meditative,a reminder of how wellness can be both scientific and soulful.
Lunch at Sami Sami introduced us to Mediterranean flavors before the day took a cultural turn with a visit to the SAKA Museum. More than an exhibition space, SAKA is a celebration of Balinese heritage, recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the “World’s Greatest Places 2024.” From the sacred rituals of Nyepi (the Balinese Day of Silence) to the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmony between people, nature, and spirit, the museum provided invaluable context to everything we were experiencing.
As twilight approached, we descended the cliffside to Rock Bar Bali, AYANA’s iconic sunset destination carved into the natural rocks. Here, perched dramatically above the waves, cocktails are accompanied by a natural spectacle as the sun melts into the horizon. Dinner flowed seamlessly into After Rock, an evening of live music and DJ sets in an elegant lounge setting, proof that Bali’s nightlife can be as sophisticated as its sunsets.
If there is one image that encapsulates AYANA, it is the floating breakfast. Delivered to our private pool in a handcrafted basket, it was a feast of tropical fruits, freshly baked pastries, and rich Balinese coffee, all enjoyed while drifting on water under the morning sun. Few experiences capture the spirit of tropical indulgence quite so perfectly. The morning continued with a mindful Garden Discovery Walk through Tevana Garden, where lush landscapes and curated design converged to create a sanctuary of serenity. Lunch at Damar Terrace offered an elegant interlude before perhaps the most memorable indulgence of the trip: Spa on the Rocks.
Perched on natural rock formations with uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean, this private spa's three hour long treatment is among the most exclusive in the world. Waves crashed dramatically below as therapists delivered a deeply restorative ritual,a true marriage of setting and service.
The final day at AYANA blended wellness with play. After a leisurely breakfast, we journeyed to AYANA Farm, where we learned the art of creating Jamu, Indonesia’s traditional herbal remedies. This hands-on experience, picking medical herbs and blending natural tonics, offered insight into the region’s holistic approach to beauty and health. It was a rare privilege to connect with Bali’s heritage in such a personal way. Lunch at Karang Restaurant provided a moment to savor, before the afternoon unfolded at Kubu Beach Club, AYANA’s private stretch of sand reminiscent of 1960s Kuta. With cocktails in hand and toes in the sand, the hours slipped by effortlessly.
The journey concluded with a grand and super exclusive Pesta Lobster Dinner at KISIK, where the freshest seafood was prepared and served by the water’s edge. AYANA provided us with an exclusive table at the water’s edge, reserved for those seeking truly unique experiences.. It was a fitting finale, luxury dining infused with the raw beauty of Bali’s coastline.
AYANA Bali is more than a resort,it is a universe where each day tells a different story. From cultural immersion and architectural wonder to spa rituals that redefine indulgence, every moment is curated with care. What sets it apart is not just scale, but the seamless balance of tradition and innovation, privacy and community, indulgence and mindfulness. For those who seek a journey that elevates both body and spirit, AYANA Bali is not merely a place to stay, but a destination to experience.
