Antonio Marras is one of Italy’s most distinctive designers, celebrated for his poetic ability to merge fashion, art, cinema, and memory. Born in 1961 in Alghero, Sardinia, Marras built his brand on a vocabulary of fabrics, symbols, and stories that return season after season with renewed vitality. Since launching his first collection in 1987, he has established himself as a multidisciplinary creator whose work spans clothing, ceramics, installations, and performance, always guided by a deep connection to his Sardinian roots and a multicultural outlook.

From the very beginning, Marras’s vision has been consistent. “Patrizia, my wife, says we could take my first collection from 1987 and show it on the runway today unchanged, and it would still feel new,” he recalls. “My notebooks are full of the same obsessions: ecru and black, tartan, florals, stripes, damasks, jacquards. These are the things I love, and they always return.”

“I like that his work is inspired by nature and he uses the elements of nature. He’s a multicultural designer. It’s beautiful to me that his idea of power is by using the power suit that is masculine and feminine.” Sharon Stone

Now, with the support of Oniverse since 2022, Marras is in a new phase of his journey. He has more freedom to focus on what he loves most: creating collections and curating the atmospheres of his boutiques. “Spaces speak, just like clothes,” he says. This renewed clarity has accompanied the openings of new boutiques in Milan and New York, landmark locations that mark Marras’s growing international presence.

Yet through all this, Marras has never abandoned his roots. Sardinia remains his inexhaustible source of inspiration. “For me, Sardinia is life. It gives me stories, ideas, and inspirations. Sometimes it has been limiting, as critics reduced everything I did to ‘Sardinian style,’ but it also made me different. I refused to move to Paris, and that refusal distinguished me,” he explains.

This attachment to place takes center stage in Marras’s Fall/Winter 2025 campaign, starring Sharon Stone. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Alghero, the campaign unfolds like a film, with silence, longing, and the sea as its co-protagonists. At its heart lies a love story. “They love each other, but he must leave; he’s a sailor who cannot resist the call of the sea,” Marras narrates. “She waits, she feels him in every street corner, in the sea’s horizon. And one day, unexpectedly, he returns, because love is stronger than the sea.”

Choosing Sharon Stone was a natural step. “She is a great actress, a real woman who only grows more beautiful with age. I love women who have lived; I am not interested in beauty without personality,” Marras explains. The two first met at the Taormina Festival, when Stone wore some of his creations. Their shared love for art and beauty cemented a connection that has now blossomed into this campaign.

On set, Stone became part of Alghero’s fabric. “She’s a great actress, it’s as if she had always been here, an Algherese at heart,” Marras says. Beyond professionalism, she showed remarkable warmth, greeting everyone from crew members to local police with grace.

For Stone, the collaboration was equally meaningful. “I like that his work is inspired by nature and he uses the elements of nature. He’s a multicultural designer. It’s beautiful to me that his idea of power is by using the power suit that is masculine and feminine,” she reflects exclusively for L’Officiel Arabia. Her words resonate with Marras’s recurring motifs: hands, roses, symbols charged with meaning. “Hands are the first thing I look at in a person,” Marras says. “They reveal who you are: they knead bread, draw, embroider, caress. And the rose, a symbol of love and kindness: there is always a need for love and kindness.”

The result is a campaign that transcends fashion imagery. It becomes a cinematic dialogue between Marras’s Sardinian identity and Stone’s Hollywood aura, weaving together tradition and modernity. “Her gaze brought modernity, curiosity, freshness,” Marras says. “She looked at Alghero without prejudice, without clichés. She is intelligent, with a unique and international perspective. Her presence leaves a mark.”

In an industry often dominated by fleeting trends, Marras insists on telling stories. His work blends disciplines–fashion, ceramics, collage, theater–in a constant contamination that, as he explains, “is not by choice but by necessity. I need many things, otherwise I feel alone. And eventually, these things meet, transforming into something else.”

From Alghero’s mysterious light to Sharon Stone’s powerful femininity, the FW25 campaign is a love letter to the Mediterranean and a manifesto of identity. It celebrates nature, culture, and lived experience as sources of power and beauty. Or, as Marras sums it up in one word, the essence of Alghero and of his imagination is simply: “Mysterious.”
