An independent artist with an eye on innovation, Marko combines cutting-edge productions with electrifying live shows, making a compelling case as one of the region’s rising forces. In conversation with L’Officiel Arabia, Marko talks about his journey.
When did the hobby turn into the life, and do you remember the moment it actually “clicked”?
I started out as a resident DJ at a lounge in Marsa Alam, Egypt. At first, it was just fun and routine, but the moment it really became my life was when I got my first gig outside of Egypt, in Dubai. That experience showed me music could take me beyond my comfort zone and connect me with new audiences.
How would you define your sound, whether in a playlist or on the stage?
My main style is melodic house & techno. For me, every track in a set should feel like part of a bigger story. From the first 30 seconds, I want people to feel the rhythms and melodies and know they’re about to go on a journey, not just hear a random playlist.
And honestly, I don’t act or overthink I just bring my real self to the stage. I focus on energy and connection with the crowd, and that translates naturally to the people watching online. When you’re genuine, both the room and the camera capture it.
When your latest EP hit #8 on Beatport, what do you think mattered more: the music itself or the promotion?
I believe even the best music won’t reach people without good promotion. If a track is amazing but nobody hears it, it doesn’t matter. So when my EP hit #8 on Beatport, it was because of both I made music I believe in, but also had a smart marketing strategy to push it to the right audience.
Style is part of an artist’s performance. How does fashion translate for you on stage?
At first, I didn’t care much about fashion. But now I see it as another way to stand out and express myself. For example, I designed an exclusive stage outfit made 100% from Egyptian materials and it turned out dope. I’m planning more unique performance looks in the future, always staying different and original.
When you founded YALLA EDM Records, what gap in the MENA music scene did you intend solving, and how do you consistently lift fresh talent?
I founded YALLA EDM Records, with Alice Alexandra, who is the head of the label. It’s all about connection and community. Many labels only look at an artist’s followers or social media numbers, but we focus on real talent. I created this label because I once wished someone would support me based only on talent, not popularity. Through YALLA EDM, we give artists showcases, promote their work, and help them get bookings in the Middle East and beyond.
Where do the Arabic elements fit into your tracks, subtly or in a bold statement?
Arabic music is part of who I am, so it’s important to bring it into my work. For example, I made a melodic techno bootleg remix of Umm Kulthum’s iconic “Enta Omri,” turning it into something fresh for today’s dance floors. I’m also planning to use other legendary Arabic vocals in upcoming projects. It’s not hidden it’s very present, because Arabic is my mother language and Egyptian culture inspires me deeply.
What is your first big break advice; how can a young DJ land a credible booking without connections?
Start small but stay consistent. Play anywhere you can private parties, lounges, small events. Build a reputation not just for your music, but also for your professionalism. Today, social media is a powerful equalizer. If your sets stand out online, promoters will notice. Don’t sit and wait for connections, create your own momentum, and opportunities will follow.
What can your fans expect from you next, and who would you love to collab with in the future?
My dream collab is with James Hype. He’s the reason I became a DJ. I was inspired by his YouTube vlogs, where he shared not just the highs but also the struggles of starting out. I relate to his story because I also faced being ignored and having my messages unanswered in the beginning. His honesty and realness made me feel like I could do it too.
I have an upcoming project with Puya, a well-known rapper from Bucharest, Romania. In December 2025, I’ll be on tour across Europe, and at the beginning of 2026, YALLA EDM Records will release an exclusive EP. These are exciting steps for me both as an artist and as a label founder.
