Parmigiani Fleurier speaks a distinctive language of discreet luxury and natural elegance, and the new Tonda PF Sport line is no exception. Enriching the Tonda PF collection with timepieces tailored for our modern, active lives, the new Tonda PF Sport line is introduced with two models:
a Chronograph and a time-only Automatic.
Exuding relaxed confidence and effortless elegance, Tonda PF Sport speaks to aesthetes for whom sport is more about leisure time, the taste of freedom and moments of escapism that bring quiet personal pleasure. The new timepieces have been conceived as everyday companions for today’s sporty lifestyles, moving seamlessly from the business week to the weekend – rather than for competition and pure performance.
Offered in a choice of steel or 18ct pink gold, the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph and Tonda PF Sport Automatic have been designed as active counterparts to their Tonda PF siblings. With their cases measuring 41mm in diameter (Automatic) and 42mm (Chronograph) and their chic, androgynous styling, both models are highly wearable, whether on a bare wrist or under a shirt cuff. While their lineage within the PF collection is immediately evident, the new timepieces are distinguished by a number of subtle details that affirm their casual sporting-chic identity; key signatures of Tonda PF Sport are the bezel, dial and strap.
The knurled bezel comprises 160 incisions, rather than the 225 incisions on the bezel of the regular Tonda PF collection, creating a bolder play of light and reflection that underlines its sportier character. The dial is decorated with a hand-guilloché ‘triangular nail’ pattern – a style shared with the Tonda GT collection. Guillochage is a centuries-old artisanal technique that creates richly textured surface decoration to enhance the effect of light falling on a surface from different angles. The applied hour markers are coated with black SuperLuminova. The simple and uncluttered design of the dials ensures perfect legibility, with the ‘panda’ styling of the Chronograph – black sub-dials on a white background – further enhancing the readability of key information. The textured strap is Cordura-treated rubber, handcrafted and stitched; its anchorage point between the lugs is so seamless that it gives the impression of being integrated into the case. Both watches are water-resistant to 100 metres.
Discretion is a virtue at Parmigiani Fleurier and, in keeping with the Tonda PF aesthetic, the logo and date window are both very discreet: the small PF medallion is positioned at 12 o'clock and the date window is at 6 o’clock on the Automatic and 4.30 on the Chronograph.
Sporty-chic Aesthetics Matched by Technical Excellence
Naturally, in line with the Parmigiani Fleurier ethos, the new watches make no compromise in their technical content.
The Tonda PF Sport Chronograph is equipped with Calibre PF070. A high-frequency (5Hz – 36,000 vph) manufacture movement with an integrated column wheel chronograph with vertical clutch, it is COSC-certified (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) for precision and offers a power reserve of 65 hours. The Tonda PF Sport Automatic features the manufacture movement Calibre PF770. With a double barrel providing a power reserve of 60 hours, it beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800 vph).
Like all Parmigiani Fleurier calibres, both of these movements and all of their components are designed, produced and assembled in the Maison’s own ateliers. Visible through the sapphire casebacks, the movements are beautifully hand-finished, with bevelled edges and Côtes de Genève decoration, and feature the Maison’s signature skeletonised winding rotor in 22-carat pink gold.
Perfectly aligned with the spirit of Parmigiani Fleurier, the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph and Tonda PF Sport Automatic are characterful watches, sporty in spirit, yet remaining faithful to the refinement of the PF collection. Timepieces designed to transcend the daily routine and segue into more active leisure time, their styling is the epitome of modern chic, blurring the lines between formality and informality, and their generous power reserves are more than enough to last for a long-weekend sailing trip or a more extended escape. For tomorrow's purists.
