Ramadan at Home. A Guide to Elegant, Meaningful Interiors

Ramadan is a season defined by warmth, generosity and the joy of hosting; tables are set with care and homes open their doors to friends, neighbours and loved ones. Across homes in the region, the holy month brings with it a sense of reflection and reconnection, but also a renewed focus on creating spaces that feel welcoming and serene. From softly lit majlis corners to thoughtfully styled dining tables, interiors take on a more intimate, festive character, setting the tone for moments shared over iftar and late night conversations.

This Ramadan, the focus shifts to simple yet meaningful touches that transform everyday living spaces into places of comfort and celebration. Nahel Selo, Creative Director at Sedar, shares his top tips for preparing your interiors for Ramadan 2026, offering ideas that balance tradition with a contemporary sense of style.

Tip 1. Make a first impression

Set the tone from the moment guests step in. A statement bench or chair layered with festive cushions, a console table styled with a tray of dates, and soft lantern lighting instantly create a warm Ramadan welcome. Add a diffuser or incense burner to introduce a gentle, comforting scent.

Nahel Selo suggests keeping the look cohesive by selecting three key colour tones and one metallic or wood finish, then carrying these through the home for a refined and connected feel.

Tip 2. Define your interior mood

Before decorating, choose a clear style direction. A contemporary look with soft pastels and gold accents feels fresh and elegant. A Bedouin inspired setting layered with textured rugs and geometric textiles brings warmth and authenticity. Moroccan influences introduce colour, pattern, and richness, while a Khaleeji inspired space can be elevated with silk, brocade, and architectural accessories.

For a more modern majlis, work with earthy tones, natural fabrics, greenery, and brushed gold details to reflect a balance between city and desert living.

Tip 3. Create a majlis at home

Recreate the intimacy of a Ramadan majlis indoors or outdoors. A simple tepee made with sheer curtains can form a cosy gathering corner, while a pergola or awning works beautifully for garden hosting. Layer low seating with ottomans, poufs, and floor cushions to encourage relaxed conversation and connection.

Tip 4. Introduce subtle arabesque details

Small decorative elements can gently signal the arrival of the season. Brass accessories, lanterns, calligraphy inspired pieces, patterned fabrics, and mirrors that reflect light add warmth and character without overwhelming the space.

Soft gold and brushed brass remain timeless, while accents in turquoise, royal blue, or dusky pink bring a contemporary edge.

Tip 5. Style the table and set the mood

Iftar tables become the heart of the home during Ramadan. Elevate the setting with metallic touches, arabesque inspired tableware, jute placemats, mini lanterns, and fresh or dried florals.

Lighting plays a key role. Fairy lights, candles, and lanterns create a soft, inviting glow that transforms everyday dining into a memorable evening ritual.
