Summer preparation should not begin when the skin is already inflamed, dehydrated, congested or visibly pigmented. As the desert summer approaches, heat, humidity and UV exposure will place the skin and scalp under constant stress, and the smarter approach is to prepare early.

Dr. Thivos Sokratous, Aesthetic Medicine Doctor at Ouronyx Dubai, brings a clinically driven perspective through his experience across both Ouronyx London and Dubai. Having seen what this climate does to skin up close, his approach focusses on barrier resilience, inflammation control, pigment prevention and long-term skin quality. Here, he shares eight ways to get ahead of the season, before it gets ahead of you.

Make SPF a Daily Essential:
SPF remains essential, but correct use matters as much as the formula itself. In Dubai, broad-spectrum SPF 50+ with PA++++ protection is the gold standard. Most people simply do not apply enough; aim for two finger lengths for the face and the same again for the neck. Texture matters too: a sunscreen that feels unwearable in heat will be skipped altogether.

Adjust Your Skincare Textures:
As temperatures rise, skin responds better to lighter, more breathable formulations. Richer creams work better at night. During the day, focus on hydration without weight - a mild AHA or BHA toner can help maintain clarity, while hydrating skin boosters support water balance at a deeper level without adding surface heaviness.

Invest in Precision, Not Guesswork:
Seasonal changes are the ideal moment to reassess your routine. Advanced imaging and skin analysis can track pigmentation, redness and inflammation over time, allowing skincare and treatments to be selected with intention rather than instinct.

Think Regeneration, Not Just Protection:
Protection is essential, but summer skincare should not stop there. Well-formulated peptide technologies can reinforce skin resilience, support recovery and improve overall function - particularly when skin is under pressure from UV exposure, heat and oxidative stress.

Adopt a Preventative Mindset:
Summer is not the time to wait until damage is visible. Preventative treatments - neuromodulators and carefully selected skin boosters, can preserve skin quality, reduce transepidermal water loss, and improve the overall quality of skin exposed to ongoing heat and light stress.

Rethink Your Choice of Makeup:
Heavy makeup is often less wearable in warmer months. A more intelligent option is to simplify - a tinted SPF, skin tint or CC-style product offers enough correction while keeping skin breathable. When skin is functioning well, less coverage is needed.

Do Not Neglect the Scalp:
The scalp deserves equal attention. Heat, sweat and UV exposure can disrupt its balance and, in susceptible individuals, worsen shedding or irritation. Diagnostic tools such as trichoscopy can identify underlying issues, while targeted treatments such as AMT and Tricopat may support follicular health and long-term hair vitality.

Extend the Same Standards Beyond the Face:
The neck, chest and hands are exposed daily yet treated as an afterthought. A complete approach to summer skin should include these areas too - both through topical care and, where appropriate, in-clinic treatments.

The principle, as Dr. Sokratous says, is simple: skin and hair perform better when biology is managed earlier and more precisely, with less guesswork. Summer preparation is not about doing more, but it is more about doing the right things, sooner!
