The Shape of Confidence

Sara Charif
Sara Charif

Dubai has never lacked emerging talent, but Sara Charif offers something rarer: a worldview. At just 22, the Dubai-based founder is building SARA CHARIF with a sensibility defined by discipline, cultural fluency, and quiet sensuality. Long before the label took form, style was already part of her visual language. Shaped by the women in her family and by an early exposure to fabric, finish, and construction, Sara developed an instinct for detail that now underpins her work.

The result is a contemporary luxury vision grounded in refined femininity, quiet sensuality, and a distinctly multicultural approach to dressing. Ahead of the official debut of SARA CHARIF, L’Officiel sat down with Sara Charif to speak about family, resilience, mathematics, equestrian discipline, and the philosophy behind the world she is building.

L’Officiel: Before Berkeley, before fashion, before the brand—where does this story begin?

Sara Charif: Very early. My grandmother had a clothing store in Lebanon, and I used to go sourcing in Turkey with her. I watched how she evaluated fabric, finishing, and quality—craftsmanship was always the standard. Style was also simply part of our family culture. My mom loved fashion too, and I grew up watching the women around me get dressed with intention. It was never just about dressing for an occasion—it was about how you carry yourself every day.

So the foundation was never only aesthetic—it was taste, discernment, discipline.

Exactly. It was about much more than clothing. It was about care, detail, and presence.

Did you always know fashion would become your life’s work?

I always loved fashion, but I was equally drawn to math and science. I began in computer science and later moved into applied mathematics. Recently, when one of my math teachers saw that I was launching the brand, he reminded me that when I was much younger, I used to always say I wanted to be a fashion designer. So I think there was always a part of me that knew. It just took time, confidence, and perspective to fully see it as something I was meant to build.

Confidence feels central to your story. What shaped it?

A lot of it came through difficulty. In high school, I went through a serious ski accident, and the recovery was long. What grounded me was discipline—continuing to show up, even when things felt uncertain. Returning to horse riding was a big part of that. My dad also shaped me deeply. He taught me resilience, grit, and the value of hard work from a young age.

You still ride competitively. What does that give you now?

Structure, focus, and consistency. Riding demands precision and control, and that absolutely carries into the way I design.

Has the equestrian world influenced your aesthetic too?

Very much so. There’s something timeless about it—clean tailoring, strong lines, discipline, refined hardware. Being close to that world sharpens my eye for proportion and precision.

When did fashion shift from instinct to intention?

During my time in the US. I was at Berkeley, and my parents noticed how naturally drawn I was to styling, shape, and building looks—I had practically turned my entire bedroom into a closet. They encouraged me to take it seriously, and that stayed with me. From there, I began learning in a very hands-on way.

Your academic background is in applied mathematics. Has that informed the way you design?

Absolutely. Mathematics trained me to think structurally, but it also taught me discipline, rigor, and how to keep working until something is right. Fashion feels like the visual counterpart to that way of thinking. They may seem like very different worlds, but to me they’re deeply interconnected through balance, proportion, construction, and detail.

You left the US and returned to Dubai. Why did that feel important?

I was born and raised in Dubai, and after spending time in the US, I realized how much being close to my family meant to me. Building something here felt right—personally, creatively, and emotionally. I also grew up surrounded by so many different cultures, and that shaped the way I see the world. Dubai has always felt like a global crossroads to me, and that multicultural energy naturally informs the way I think about women, dressing, and design.

How would you define SARA CHARIF in a single sentence?

Refined femininity with modern romantic restraint—delicate, structured, quietly sensual, and grounded in craftsmanship.

You were also part of the Dubai Mall Festival of Fashion. What did that moment represent for you?

It felt meaningful. Being part of the “From Vision to Brand” panel was a chance to speak about what it really takes to build something with intention. It was both exciting and affirming.

You’ve also been recognized internationally—named among the Top 25 Womenpreneurs to Watch in 2026, honored with the Iconic Woman in Sculpted Innovation award in Dubai, and invited as a VIP guest to the Womenpreneur Middle East Elite100 summit during International Women’s Day. How did that recognition land for you?

It meant a lot. When you’re building something from the ground up, you spend so much time focused on the work itself that you rarely stop to reflect. Recognition like that feels encouraging because it reminds you that people are seeing what you’re creating. More than anything, it motivates me to keep going.

Last question. When a woman puts on SARA CHARIF, what do you want her to feel?

I want her to feel like the best version of herself. She is already confident, refined, and powerful—I want the clothing to meet her there and elevate those qualities beautifully. I want it to be the piece she reaches for with excitement, the one that feels effortless, flattering, and entirely aligned with who she is.
