Folded Balance

For Couture Spring/Summer 2026, byFANG refines its distinctive couture language, deepening a dialogue between structure, movement, and cultural duality.

Between Paris and Shanghai, Fang Yang has shaped byFANG into a couture house defined by discipline rather than display. Her work is rooted in transformation of material, of form, of tradition, and guided by a precise understanding of balance. Central to this vision is zhezhi, the ancient art of Chinese paper folding, which first captured Fang Yang’s imagination and continues to inform her approach to volume, proportion, and motion.

At byFANG, folding is never ornamental. It is architectural. Fabric begins in a state of flatness and is gradually shaped through controlled tensions and deliberate releases, allowing silhouettes to emerge with clarity and intention. The result is a sense of fluidity that feels earned rather than imposed, where garments appear to move naturally with the body while maintaining a strong structural presence. This equilibrium between rigour and lightness has become a defining characteristic of the Maison.

The house’s Franco-Chinese foundation is not symbolic but structural. Built between Paris and Shanghai by Fang Yang alongside entrepreneur Grégoire Caillol, byFANG reflects a genuine exchange between cultures, expressed through technique, construction, and restraint. Couture Spring/Summer 2026 extends this identity with a more exacting approach to form, pushing the brand’s origami-inspired vocabulary toward greater intricacy and refinement.

This season, silhouettes gain precision. Folds are sharper, transitions cleaner, and volumes more deliberate, allowing structure and movement to engage in an increasingly sophisticated dialogue. Each piece demonstrates a heightened sense of control, revealing complexity through simplicity rather than excess.

The colour palette evolves with similar restraint. Alongside the house’s signature black, white, and red, light blue tones are introduced, bringing a sense of freshness and luminosity. These shades soften the architectural lines of the garments, enhancing depth and dimension without compromising their strength. The interplay of colour and form reinforces the collection’s quiet confidence.

Couture Spring/Summer 2026 continues byFANG’s exploration of modern couture as a space where heritage and innovation coexist. It is a vision of couture defined not by spectacle, but by precision, emotion, and a calm, enduring power.
