After years of showcasing his collections in the world's fashion capital, Gaurav Gupta has opened his first permanent showroom there, a 300-square-metre space at 6 Rue Jean Goujon, within the city's Golden Triangle. "Paris has been a dream of mine for a very long time," he says.
Internationally recognised for his sculptural couture, Gupta has dressed global names including Beyoncé, Shakira and Cardi B, and his designs are stocked at Harrods, Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale's. Since his early presentations at Paris Haute Couture Week, his relationship with the city has grown with each season. It was after showing Shunya in 2023 that he knew he wanted something more permanent, a space "that could exist beyond the few days of Couture Week," he recalls.
The location tells its own story. Designed almost a hundred years ago by French architect Charles Lemaresquier, the building has a strong architectural character, and that’s what first drew Gupta to it. Into this space, he brings his own language of creativity, with Indian craftsmanship, artworks and furniture of his own design, so that the building and the house now begin a new chapter together.
At the helm of the Couture Salon is Jean-Paul Cornut, who comes with years of experience in Parisian haute couture, including his previous role as Haute Couture Director at Elie Saab. For Gupta, the salon is about slowing down. "Couture takes time," he explains. Here, he can spend that time with the clothes and with the people who wear them, far from the rush of the runway. A home in fashion's most storied city was the natural next step, and also "a significant moment for Indian couture," he believes. "I have imagined this space for a long time," he adds. "Now that it is here, I cannot wait for you to see what we create next."
