Be Well

#INTERVIEW: A Journey into Healing and Light With Shaylini

In the quiet spaces between breath and being, where energy flows unseen yet deeply felt, Shaylini channels the ancient art of healing - restoring balance and igniting transformation at every level of the self. A world-renowned Reiki Master Teacher and Practitioner, she is a guiding light for those seeking harmony, inner peace and deep emotional release.

Rooted in the wisdom of ancient mantras, meditation, and Universal life energy, Shaylini’s spiritual journey began early. Her path led her through Ayurveda, yoga, and deep introspection, finally leading her to the path of Reiki in Kerala. That moment of awakening has since shaped a practice that touches hearts across continents, offering healing as deep as the soul itself.

From the serene sanctuaries of Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts to intimate, private healing spaces, Shaylini brings forth a practice that transcends the physical, restoring the mind, body, and soul to their natural state of peace. Her peaceful, grounding energy and healing hands have reached those who seek not just relief, but renewal.

Through intuitive energy work, sacred chants, and the gentle alchemy of touch, Shaylini clears known or even unknown blockages that carry a heavy, often unnecessary burden. Whether in person or distantly, Shaylini channels healing, a beautiful reminder that that connection knows no boundaries.

Her philosophy is simple, yet profound: “Do what you love, and the Universe will respond.” L’Officiel Arabia speaks to Shaylini in the tranquil backdrop of the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi.

Delna Mistry Anand: Shaylini, tell us a bit about your journey and especially what led you to discover the spiritual path?

Shaylini: British by birth (and heart) and Indian by heritage (and soul), my path intuitively led me back to my roots. My story begins with my beautiful mother who from a very young age opened my eyes to the beauty and eternal wisdom of our spiritual world, in that sense, spirituality has always been at the core of my being.

Childhood is the time when we are naturally closest to the eternal truth. We come into the world with fresh minds ready to have life’s experiences shape and mould who we are. Inevitably the fast-paced, stress-filled, emotionally charged and conflicting adult world takes over. Our human body can only take only so much before an imbalance in some shape or form manifests.

My young senses were enthralled, and I soaked it all in. Years later, I decided to travel to the mesmerising and captivating land of Ayurveda; Kerala - set in nature’s magnificence and home to one of the oldest natural healing systems in the world.  Ayurveda directly translates as the "science of life." It emphasises achieving balance of the body, mind and soul through living in tune with the rhythms of nature.

I was completely drawn in by the beautiful healing experiences of ancient Indian wisdom, from Ayurveda and yoga to spirituality and meditation - all of which work closely with energy. It was in Kerala that I experienced Reiki healing for the first time, re-igniting my spark of spiritual longing and intrigue.  The connection with universal life energy (also known as chi, ki, or prana), frequency, and vibration was so profound that it completely transformed my path.  I experienced the filling of a deep void within me. I felt whole again. And I knew I wanted to share this gift with those who need it.

Could you explain what Reiki is about and who would benefit from it?

Reiki is a powerful yet gentle healing energy that flows through all living things.

With its roots in Japanese origin, the word Reiki comes from ‘Rei’ which means “Universal Life” and ‘Ki’ which means “Energy”. This universal life force energy is known by different words but mean the same – it called “Chi” in China, and “Prana” in India.

All traditional and modern forms of energy therapy such as Reiki, Yoga and Acupuncture are believed to work by stimulating clearance of energy blocks and allowing natural a natural free flow of energy. It is believed that a person’s "ki" or energy should be strong and free flowing. When this is the case, a person is physically, mentally, and emotionally balanced and their body and mind are in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance.

The art of Reiki is a healing technique whereby the practitioner administers energy healing by means of touch. This "life force energy" then flows through to activate and strengthen the body’s natural healing processes to help restore mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Reiki simultaneously works to balance the chakras in the body, enabling the body to heal itself.

Reiki is completely natural, non-invasive and not attached to any religion and is therefore open to people from all walks of life. Anyone seeking overall well-being, balance, and a return to their natural state of peace can benefit from Reiki, and it is particularly beneficial for those dealing with stress, anxiety, emotional imbalances, or physical discomforts such as inflammation, back pain, and sleep difficulties.

How do you channel Reiki and energy healing in a session for someone?

Each session is unique in its own way, and we always begin with an in-depth consultation where we discuss the client’s healing needs. I then guide them through the process, ensuring they feel comfortable and aware of what to expect. The session itself involves the client lying down on the healing table while I begin with a deeply healing mantra, followed by guided breathwork. I use both hands-on and hands-off techniques, depending on their individual needs. The session concludes with a healing chant and a reflective discussion about any insights that arose during the healing.

In your beautiful journey of channelling healing for others, how do you recharge yourself?

I seek healing in nature and find it immensely nurturing to walk barefoot on the grass, feeling connected to the earth, and taking long, meditative walks.

What would you say is the key to a happier, more fulfilling life?
Radiate Gratitude! Gratitude simply means being thankful for everything around you, counting your blessings, noticing and appreciating the simple pleasures in life, such as the freshness in the air, the colour of the sky, a smile from a stranger, the coffee your loved one made you this morning. Think of gratitude as an emotional muscle and like any other muscle in the body, it will grow and strengthen with intentional use.  Behavioural and psychological research has shown that practicing gratitude can create significant improvements in our life through increasing our happiness, strengthening our relationships, improving our health and reducing stress to name a few.

You’ve often spoken of a Gratitude List, what are your tips to create one and work effectively with it?

One great and effective way of practicing gratitude is to keep a Love and Life-filled Gratitude List. I like to call it “Love and Life-filled” because I don’t simply mean “listing words on a page” (as this would quite honestly be a totally inauthentic and pointless attempt at a gratitude list and neither would it invoke the desired feelings to radiate from within you). Your gratitude list should evoke authentic feelings of gratefulness, abundance and joy. The primary purpose of keeping a gratitude list is to feel blessed and deeply appreciative for everything that we have. When we step-up our approach to our gratitude list, viewing it as a tool that evokes genuine feelings of gratitude (as opposed to a list we robotically write to “tick the boxes” of our self-development to-do list) that is when we know that we are on the path to a wondrous, abundance filled life.

Here are my 5 tips on how to make your gratitude list love and life-filled:

1. Add love: Write from the heart. Fill your gratitude list with emotion and an abundance of it!

2. Add details: This will fill your gratitude list with life. Perhaps it was a colour, a small gesture, a fragrance or a feeling that overcame you. Write it down!

3. Add reasons: List why you appreciated, loved, enjoyed, were overcome by something.

4. Add your personal touch: This is your gratitude list, so write in your own personal style. No-one else will be reading this but you, so make sure your writing speaks volumes to you! Let it touch you to the very depths of your heart’s core.

5. Add life: Add colour, glitter, draw pictures, add memorabilia; tickets from a show, a receipt from a meal, a flower petal from the bouquet a loved one gave to you, or even a blade of grass from a beautiful walk you might have been on. Make your writing come to life and recapture those moments of gratitude.

These listed moments of gratitude do not serve you in a momentary, time-specific way; they are timeless, infinite and unbounded. They can re-ignite all those moments of abundance, joy and gratitude even years later. Try reading through your Love and Life-filled Gratitude List when you’re not feeling your usual chirpy self, it’s the best pick-me-up for the heart, mind and soul.
