ŌURA's latest update cuts the hormonal health data gap, from contraception to menopause, and validates what women are feeling with evidence

A conversation that many women have at some point, with a doctor, a friend or  even search engine, goes something like this: "I’m feeling different, something is changing and I cannot explain it exactly." And the response, more often than not, is some well-meaning version of: "This is normal, give it time. And get some rest, stay hydrated. Reassuring and loving, yes but not fully useful.

For women navigating hormonal birth control, that shift might show up as unexplained fatigue, mood changes or disrupted sleep with no clear connection to what is causing it. For women entering perimenopause, it can mean years of brain fog, night sweats and a nagging feeling that something fundamental is changing within, with very little guidance on what it means or what to do about it. The problem was never that women were not paying attention to their bodies. It was that they never had the tools to fully understand what their bodies were actually saying. ŌURA's latest update, rolled out earlier this month, is designed to change just that, making it the brand’s most significant expansion into women's hormonal health.

Of the two standout new key features, the first adapts ŌURA's existing Cycle Insights for women using hormonal contraception - pills, patches, IUDs, implants and more than 20 unique combinations. For the first time, members can see how their specific method of contraception influences their temperature patterns, sleep and recovery over time, tracking what is happening across hormone and hormone-free days and connecting what they feel to what is actually occurring inside their bodies. It is a first-of-its-kind integration that turns a smart ring into something far more useful.

The second feature, Menopause Insights is at its core is the Menopause Impact Scale, a proprietary clinical questionnaire developed by ŌURA's science team that replaces the decades-old legacy tool previously used to assess menopause symptoms. Members receive a personalised dashboard translating their symptoms into an overall impact level across domains including sleep, mood, cognition and daily functioning - patterns they can track over time and share directly with their clinicians.

"Too often, women are left to piece together symptoms from search results, social media and brief check-ins that don't capture the full picture of their health," says Dr. Chris Curry, clinical director of women's health at ŌURA. "Menopause Insights brings each member's long-term biometric patterns together with what they're experiencing day to day, so how they feel and what their data shows is in the same conversation."

This is a gentle shift in how women have been approaching this issue so far, because of many women, how they feel and what the data shows, have never been in the same conversation. Feelings can be dismissed as subjective. The data so far has either not existed or not been specific enough to be useful. ŌURA is putting them side by side for the first time, continuously, on a device that sits on your finger and tracks over 50 health metrics without requiring a clinic visit or an appointment.

Together with the company's existing Cycle Insights, Fertile Window, Pregnancy Insights and a recently released AI model designed specifically to interpret women's health data, ŌURA is building something that extends well beyond individual features, it offers an adaptive women's health companion that evolves with every hormonal life stage, from a woman's earliest cycles through family planning, pregnancy and the menopause transition.

Holly Shelton, ŌURA's chief product officer, says: "Hormonal health has been treated as an afterthought in both medicine and technology for decades. Asking women to rely on trial and error, vague reassurance, or generic symptom trackers simply isn't good enough."

For the women reading this who have spent years wondering why nobody could explain what was happening, this ring on your finger might finally be able to answer you.
